Industrial Business Valuations is part of Valuation Group

Specialists in industrial business valuation.

Industrial companies can be difficult to value because their value often sits across earnings, assets, operations, contracts and specialist capability. Industrial Business Valuations was created to give business owners, lawyers, accountants, buyers and shareholders a specialist valuation service designed around these businesses.

Short answer

Who is Industrial Business Valuations?

Industrial Business Valuations is a specialist Australian valuation practice for manufacturing, engineering, logistics, mining services, distribution and other industrial businesses. It is part of Valuation Group, which provides the shared methodology, quality review and client platform. Every report is prepared by a suitably qualified business valuer at Valuation Group, for a fixed fee.

Why a specialist practice for industrial businesses?

Any competent valuer can read a set of financial statements. The harder part in an industrial business is what the statements do not show: whether the plant can keep producing the profit, whether the largest customer is bound by anything more than habit, whether the certifications and the skilled people would stay with a new owner, and how much working capital the business really needs to run.

Think of a transport operator with a young fleet and a dedicated contract that ends next year. A toolmaker whose best customer owns the tooling. A food manufacturer whose margin depends on one retailer's next range review. A fabricator whose founder still prices every job. Each has a defensible value, and each needs a valuer who knows which question to ask first.

That is the thesis behind this practice: industrial value is spread across earnings, assets, operations, contracts and capability, and the components interact. Our methodology page shows how we work through them.

Which businesses do we value?

Industrial businesses of most sizes, from a single-site workshop to a multi-site manufacturing group, anywhere in Australia:

How do we work?

  • A fixed fee, confirmed in writing. Fees are set by annual turnover, and the engagement letter states the scope, the fee and the delivery basis before any work starts. See pricing.
  • A conversation before documents. Every matter starts with an enquiry and a scoping call. Documents come later, only through the private upload link on your matter.
  • Independence. The fee does not depend on the value we reach. The conclusion is ours, whoever engages us.
  • A draft before the final. You check the facts in a draft and sign a representation letter confirming the information supplied before the final report is issued.
  • Site visits only when needed. Most valuations are completed from documents and conversations. If the operation or equipment needs to be seen, we say so when scoping and agree any visit and its cost first.
  • Australia-wide. We work from documents and calls, so there is no need to visit an office. The process works the same in Perth as in Geelong, and the fee does not change with the postcode.

Guided by APES 225 Valuation Services.

APES 225 is the standard Australia's accounting bodies set for valuation work. We are an independent valuation practice, not an accounting firm, and we hold every report we sign to it. The standard is theirs. The discipline is ours.

How does Industrial Business Valuations relate to Valuation Group?

Industrial Business Valuations is part of Valuation Group.

Valuation Group provides what every matter runs on: a shared valuation methodology, quality review before a report is issued, and the platform that handles each engagement, from the engagement letter and invoice to the private document link and the client portal where reports are delivered. Industrial Business Valuations brings the industrial focus: the questions we ask, the evidence we look for and the way the report explains an industrial business.

Every valuation is prepared by a suitably qualified business valuer at Valuation Group. Engagement letters, invoices and reports are issued by Valuation Group Pty Ltd. Industrial Business Valuations is a trading name of Valuation Group Pty Ltd (ABN 48 702 469 252).

Who do we work with?

  • Business owners selling, buying out a partner, planning succession or restructuring.
  • Accountants who need a valuation for a restructure, a capital gains tax event or an estate, prepared to their brief. See professional referrals.
  • Lawyers acting in shareholder disputes, estates and transactions.
  • Financial advisers planning succession or an estate where the business is the largest asset.
  • Buyers who want an independent view before making an offer. See acquisition valuations.
  • Sellers who want a defensible value before going to market. See business sale valuations.
  • Shareholders dealing with an exit, a buy-sell agreement or a minority interest. See shareholder valuations.
  • Family offices holding interests in private industrial companies.
  • Private equity considering a bolt-on acquisition or a management buy-out.
  • Corporate advisers who need an independent valuation alongside a sale process or capital raising.

What do we do, and what do we leave to others?

We value industrial businesses and the shares in them. Some of the work around a valuation belongs to other specialists, and we say so at the start rather than part way through.

  • Land and buildings are valued by a property valuer. Where the business owns its factory or depot, we use that valuation and set out how the property is treated.
  • A formal plant and machinery valuation, for finance, insurance or a sale of assets, is done by a plant and machinery valuer. Where one exists, we use it as an input.
  • Legal, taxation, investment and financial product advice belongs with your lawyer, accountant or licensed adviser. We give them a valuation they can work from.
  • Expert evidence for a court or tribunal is a separate engagement with its own scope and fee. A report prepared for a commercial purpose is not a court expert report.

Questions

Who prepares the valuation?

A suitably qualified business valuer at Valuation Group, using the group's shared methodology and quality review. The report is issued by Valuation Group Pty Ltd, the company behind Industrial Business Valuations.

Do you have offices in each city?

No. Valuations are completed Australia-wide from documents, phone and video calls, and the private document link on each matter, so there is no need to visit an office. If the operation needs to be seen, we agree any visit and its cost when scoping.

Is Industrial Business Valuations independent of buyers and sellers?

Yes. We are paid a fixed fee that does not depend on the value we reach or on whether a transaction proceeds. Whoever engages us, the conclusion is our own judgement, and the report sets out the reasoning so others can test it.
